Franz Schubert's music and Wilhelm Müller's texts dialogue with the images of the American artist Elizabeth Duffy in Winterreise. The journey through Schubert's music unfolds in layers, never seeming to reach the ultimate depth, but reflecting our own journeys through unknown places from youth to adulthood. The beauty of the music and text sublimate the despair, just as Elizabeth's materials and process, evocative of each of our everyday challenges, emerges as a kind of epiphany.
